Issue: - Church and Village Hall

The Church

It was reassuring to see that 77 % of respondents felt that the Church(es) was / were important - but as historic buildings! 42 % felt our churches were important for Sunday worship, whereas 65 % felt the Church was important for baptisms, weddings and funerals. We have already "lost" St. Nonna's (Bradstone) through under-utilisation. Just over 50 % were already helping with the Church, or prepared to help, but almost 50 % were not interested in helping with inside, outside or fund-raising. This illustrates the dilemma the Church is already facing: people don't seem to have the time to give, anymore, but they'd like the warm feeling that the Church is there, just in case.

Majority want the Church, but don't want to be involved.

Diversify use of Church buildings?

Village Hall

The Village Hall was judged to be adequate by 65 %, although 83 % use it less frequently than once a month - or never.

Issue: - Local Facilities

Community Policeman

92 respondents (71 %) would like to see more of their Community Policeman.

"We see him and the service provided seems fine."

Sewerage

The Committee was interested to note that 6.3% of respondents had no answer to the question "What sewage disposal system do you use"!

It was also interesting to note that, despite the almost total reliance on private drainage (67% have septic tanks), 61% do not want to put in mains drainage. 11% were interested, but only if the cost was less than £5,000 apiece.

Little support for mains drainage

"Two's company!"

(It's in Meadwell, if you're interested.)

Options for marking the Millennium:

126 people responded to the Millennium question. 92 wanted to mark it in some way, but only 48 answered the options list. The other 44 didn't even answer "other" - so we are unsure of what they might have preferred.

The most popular option was to create a "Parish Album", containing photographs of houses in the community. The second most popular option was to plant trees, and the third most popular option was to have a Celebration, similar to the one we had to mark V.E. day

"Smile, please!"

Issue: - Housing

Accommodation: analysis of needs

13 people (21 %) needed alternative accommodation. 77 % did not. Three of the replies were "urgent", but the majority of people anticipated a need within the next ten years. The majority of respondents seemed to feel that current housing levels in the community were adequate, whilst airing a concern that the shortage of "first time buyer" housing might discourage younger people from staying in, or moving into the community.

"One better than a tent!"

Issue: - General

Diana, Princess of Wales: Commemoration

131 responded to this question. 65 % would like to mark the life of Diana, Princess of Wales. 24 % did not want to, and 12 % had no opinion.

The Parish Council has put aside some money to provide bulbs to be planted in the community, which will provide an annual memorial.

"Do something that is more permanent."

"Plant Diana roses"

"Contribute [instead] to one of Diana's favourite charities"

Meadwell and Felldownhead

Most people had no opinion as to whether or not Meadwell and Felldownhead were under-represented. Of those that expressed an opinion (sounds like a cat food advertisement!), 32 % (40 people) felt these hamlets were under-represented, whereas 26 % did not.

"Meadwell is part of Kelly, and Felldownhead is part of Bradstone"
