Breakdown of respondents

65% of he households returned completed questionnaires, and from this information we can derive the following:

Housing

RECOMMENDATION: To pass on the housing need information to the Parish Council, West Devon Borough Council and The Housing Association.

Local Information

55% of respondents (598 people) find it easy to access information about local events, 304 people (23%) do not and 18% had no opinion on the matter. Most people learn about village activities via word of mouth, although shop windows, posters and The Bridge Magazine are a good source of information. 47% read The Bridge; the following is a list of the most popular issues it was felt should be included in it:

Noticeboard

The majority of those expressing an opinion (77%) thought the village should have a noticeboard; of those expressing an opinion 58% felt it should be in the village centre; 27% at a village shop and 26% at the village hall.

RECOMMENDATION: To notify the Parish Council of the above views regarding access to local information and the siting of the noticeboard.

Education & Training

Out of 1,053 respondents (93% of total), 408 (39%) expressed an interest in vocational training. The most popular subjects for vocational training are as follows:

If appropriate training were provided, 362 (90%) would be prepared to travel to Horrabridge, 353 (88%) to Tavistock and 121 (30%) to Plymouth.

RECOMMENDATION: To pass this information to Tavistock Community College so that they can be made aware of the level of interest and can provide appropriate publicity of the courses available. It may be worthwhile to included an article in the August/September 1998 issue of the Bridge magazine on the courses to be offered for the 1998/99 academic year.

RECOMMENDATION: Information needs to be forwarded to the headmaster and govenors of the schools as well as to the Horrabridge Community Association.

RECOMMENDATION: These figures should be sent, for possible consideration, to the relevant bodies, including the govenors and head teacher of the school as well as those responsible for setting up the proposed school nursery.
