The Horrabridge Community Appraisal questionnaire was delivered to all households in Horrabridge in March 1998. 548 households returned the questionnaire out of 846 delivered which gave a response of 65%. A total of 1136 people replied to the personal section of which 46% were males and 54% were females. 16% of respondents were 11-16 years, 65% were 22-64 years and 19% were 65 years and over.
The Horrabridge Community Apprailsal was designed to give everyone in the village an opportunity to express an opinion. on issues within the community and the incredible 65% response shows the immense interest that parishioners have in the running and future development of Horrabridge. Many issues have been raised and tabled and will be discuessed at a public meeting in the autumn with a view to completing two projects by the millennium.
This report summarises the results with preliminary recommendations and information which will require careful analysis and examination before any project can proceed. This document will simply provide an initial agenda for the people of Horrabridge. It will be regularly reviewed by local action groups, the Parish Council and the Appraisal Steering Committee to ensure that real progress is made.
The real action will be instigated by the Action Groups which will be set up at the Public Meeting on Thursday, 1st October from 7.00pm to 10.00pm in the Community Hall at Horrabridge County Primary School. Advice will be available to them on sources of funding and other support. The Public Meeting is therefore the key to the success of the projects and as much notice will be given as possible to make sure everyone has the opportunity to attend.
In the meantime if you want to make any further comments on this report please telephone the chairman of the Steering Committee, David Cloke on 854193 or write to him at 7 Pencreber Road, Horrabridge.
Finally thanks are due to the distributors and the residents for taking the time to make it such a resounding success as well as the members of the Steering Committee, Parish Council and Community Council of Devon.
