GENERAL COMMENT ‘I have not filled in your questionnaire, as I feel that a few of the questions are loaded in favour of the farmer bashing fraternity. This surprises me, because there is very little other employment within the parish other than agriculture, or that agriculture has not provided the environment for. Surely anyone moving into a Parish of this sort, can only expect to find animals on roads, and on occasion in gardens either by their own digression or by the fact that the property owner is too lazy to shut their gates. Hunting would also be a tradition and something which most genuine rural people might enjoy or find necessary, not something to suffer from. Another question asks people, however well informed, to comment or question how some parishioners run their farms, but nowhere does it give the farmer the chance to comment on the way other professions earn their living. As regards livestock on the roads. How else would anybody living in a parish where nearly all land has common rights, expect livestock to be moved from farms to common land. I also find it difficult to understand why no reference to equestrian use of the roads was questioned, or if farmers find there are problems, with other parishioners being impatient, and inconsiderate when confronted with driven stock. There is also no mention on car parking in the village, making it difficult to travel through the village with agricultural machinery, or could in fact impede a fire engine on occasions.’ [DF&F Main Menu] [Community Profiles Menu] [Community Appraisals Menu] [Top of Page] [Devon C.C.
