MILLENNIUM

Balloons78 (56%) people want to adopt a project for the Millennium with a celebration being the most popular (66%) followed by a permanent memorial (33%) and Millennium projects (30%) e.g. Domesday Book, Time Capsule, Flagpole, Tree Planting. Carved Boundary Stone.

Recommendation: To discuss at Public Meeting 20th July

‘Sabotage the Dome’

‘Let’s have a massive firework display’ (who wants to let them off?)

‘Open up the Village Hall, The Church, The Pub and the Café Forge and lets party’

’There should be a special celebration service in the church at the end of 2000/beginning 2001. The Millennium is a significant time in the church calendar and the reason for the celebration in the first place!’

RELIGION

ChurchIn the 1985 survey over half the respondents wanted the church kept open for community use. Similarly, now with 135 out of 175 possible respondees, over half want the church used for choral concerts, and a third want meditation, with slightly less than a third for poetry readings and healing. Most people felt their spiritual needs were met within the community - whether in the church or not.

There were many comments (27) on alternative uses for the church, (including use for a dog show!) and to be used by other religions and spiritual practices. Otherwise someone suggested a new building for alternative religions ‘ possibly based on the Stone Age’- whether building or religion was not clear.

Recommendation: Pass this information to the clergy.

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYMENT IN THE VILLAGE

Tractor

About 60% of the people who filled in the questionnaire responded to this question. Most popular would be art/crafts/cottage industry (59 people), 51 people would like more agriculture/forestry jobs and 41 people would like more green tourism. 29 people wanted more educational jobs, in particular an ‘environmental wildlife person to advise on local practices’.

Someone wanted a paper round.
