Local Services Health Services Two-thirds of parishioners are registered at the Yealmpton surgery, just less than one-third at Modbury and 5% go elsewhere. Disability 11 people in the parish are registered disabled. It is difficult and hazardous for the elderly and disabled to get into the village shop. Long-term care Sixty-seven people see the need for a residential home to house the infirm and elderly. The more difficult questions of where and how to provide such facilities gave rise to many different suggestions. Proposed sites ranged from the Battisborough Cross playing fields through conversion of farm buildings, to the community orchards. A good alternative suggestion is the construction of sheltered housing incorporating accommodation for a resident warden.
Recycling It is good to see that Holbeton Parishioners have the environment in mind. Why not car-share? Village Shop 289 people said they use the village shop. Of these, 79% do so because they need to use the Post Office, 58% because they like to support local shops and 54% for last minute items. It is important for the village to retain the Post Office and shop, some villages have lost theirs and it is hard to get them back. ‘Old people really need the village shop and Post Office’ Library Service 80 people use the Mobile Library Service, not every visit, and 77% never use it. This provides an essential service for those without transport.
