Environment

‘Everybody should be responsible for where they live’

Footpaths

Footpaths are much used, with over 40% of parishioners using them weekly. Most people (around two-thirds) know where the footpaths are and are able to follow them without difficulty.

Generally

Dustbin82 people would like to help improve the parish environment and 147 people would help with a "Parish clean up day" while 43 would help improve rights of way.

A marvellous response, which should be made use of.

60% of respondents thought that dog mess is a problem. This is a continuing hazard, which is difficult to control and relies on the responsibility of all dog owners.

‘Dog mess is the number one blight on quality of life in Holbeton, especially for many people with young children’

Improvements

There were a many ideas put forward for areas in the parish which could be improved visually, these were just some of them:

Improve the old Blacksmiths shop at Battisborough Cross.

Put the telephone cable between Battisborough Cross and Whitemoor underground.

More trees on the roadside.

Exterior of the village hall, "it looks a bit dreary".

Corrugated iron ‘tunnel’ in Gibb Lane.

Cars and car parking are obviously a hazard.

More benches.

The full list has been forwarded to the Parish Council.

78% of the respondents think that we were all responsible for looking after the countryside.
