AMENITIES

GENERAL:

137 households are prepared to separate and keep items of refuse for recycling. 44 households use the village bottle and clean can bank. But 68 don't know where it is (see map).

Asked if the village needs public toilets, 191 people say 'yes' and 72 say 'no'.

138 households say they are able to park cars off the road; 21 cannot.

220 people say the village needs a car park; 54 say it does not. If built opposite the butcher's shop 26 people say they would use it for overnight parking.

28 people would like to rent or buy a lock-up garage if built.

THE VILLAGE HALL:

110 suggestions are offered concerning improvements to the Village Hall. The major ones being:

    - a comprehensive heating and ventilation system;
    - refurbish and redecorate in brighter colours;
    - modernise existing facilities, especially the kitchen, toilets and cloakroom.

A number of people think a new, larger hall should be built which could include other suggested improvements -- a stage, more storage space, double doors for easier entry, new windows, better chairs and tables, an additional fire escape and bigger and better amenities.

The Parish Council taking over the Hall was also suggested.

The children also had some opinions about the Village Hall: 9% say 'great'; 34% say 'good'; 38% say 'so-so'; 14% say 'bad' and 5% say 'terrible'. They would like the Village Hall to be: bigger, painted, made more attractive, warmer, with a clean floor and P.E. equipment to be available. The children suggest several activities -- children's club, keep fit club and more discos.

TWO out of three children and adults say there is not enough to do or that the local activities are poor. One person in three has attended a function at the village school in the last year. One person in nine uses the mobile library which visits the village every Tuesday. Seven out of eight people would like to see the village carnival (or a similar event) revived.

If there were more open spaces where children could play or people could picnic more than half of the Parish would use them. Many children use the playing field and more than two thirds of them say it is good. They also say the playing field would be better with swings, slides, monkey bars and other things to play on.

The playing field, located outside the village, is difficult to reach. Children were asked how they got there. They walk with others, ride on bikes or are taken by car. Two out of three children use the back road.

In a new play area the most popular things are swings, climbing frames and slides. Children also want more things to do and suggest clubs, discos, tennis and other activities.

Nearly half the adults and children say that activities could be better publicised (posters, noticeboards, leaflets, etc.).

Many people are interested in joining or helping to organize a number of activities. They are listed below:

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

HOW well does the Parish. Council publicise its decisions and activities?

This brought 324 responses with one person not being aware that there is a Parish Council. Nearly two-thirds of people think the Parish Council should do more to publicise its work. In addition 69 per cent of people would like more information about the Parish council.

Asked if planning applications receive sufficient publicity, 197 people say 'No' and 40 say 'Yes'. One suggestion is that all properties adjacent to a proposed planning application are notified.

GENERAL

OLD documents offered for a future study of the Parish include an old school photograph, a 100 year old map and some old farm accounts.
