Action Plan
Housing
The Parish Council (PC) will endeavour to keep housing development to a minimum but will take opportunities for new development that include housing for local people or give a way of providing additional benefits/facilities to Hemyock.
Community Facilities (also see sport, social & entertainment)
- If the PC goes ahead with its search for premises, it will try and incorporate community office facilities.
- The PC will try and find and then arrange daytime adult education classes and also try and identify a venue for a WI market, surgeries, over 60s social club and short mat bowls.
Editors note
It is clear from responses that specific needs were identified – extra hall space and increased leisure/recreational facilities
Sport, Social & Entertainment
In partnership with Mid Devon District Council and a developer, the PC will pursue the possibility to develop the site at Station Road as a playing field.
The PC are continuing to investigate acquiring more land for recreational use, particularly for a riverside park.
Support for the re-opening of the Culm Valley Railway for community use will be passed on to the group managing this project.
The PC, in partnership with other local groups, are trying to access funding to improve facilities for young people within the Parish.
Transport
There is no clear mandate from respondents over the type of traffic calming that should be undertaken but the PC will continue to work on this with the appropriate partners.
The PC will pass the results of the questions on bus services to Devon County Council and the appropriate bus companies.
- The feasibility of setting up a taxibus and/or social car scheme will be investigated.
Information & Communication
Parish Pump Editors will be congratulated on their success, and passed the comments regarding possible widening of the information in the Pump.
Countryside & Environment
P3 wardens will be given the results of the Appraisal on paths/bridleways, and will ensure any problems with signposting and undergrowth are dealt with. Information on how people can help to maintain footpaths will be circulated in Parish Pump.
The PC will try and set up recycling facilities within the Parish
The PC will investigate the availability of land for allotments if approached directly by local residents requesting them.
The PC will continue to provide dog bins around the parish and to contact the dog warden when complaints are received from the public.
A "Clean Up Hemyock" day will be organised in co-operation with the Young Farmers and Scouts (post Foot & Mouth Disease).
Employment & Local Economy
The PC will keep in mind the supported options for additional employment opportunities & workspaces and will support people with particular plans fitting these preferences.
The PC (with others) will investigate ways of developing suitable tourist information to encourage walking/rambling, nature study, photography/painting and horseriding & farm visits within the parish and the local B&B and guest houses.
The village shops will be given feedback of the questions concerning why people do use the village shops, and why they shop elsewhere.
Health & Social Services
Results of respondents views on the above will be passed by the PC to the appropriate health service providers.
Information concerning respondents difficulties in accessing certain services will be given to the Blackdown Support Group.
Local Government
The Parish Council will pass on the views of respondents, on increased devolution of powers to the PC, to the appropriate authorities, particularly in the light of recent Government indications.
The PC are pleased to see the Mid Devon District Council employed lengthsman in the parish, but will pursue the possibility of further time in the parish on this and general environment issues.
Thank you to all those who responded to this survey and all those involved in putting it together and producing this report.
