570 people from these households completed the individual elements of the questionnaire. Housing Regarding the number of houses built over the last 10 years within the Parish, 187 respondents (33%) thought the number about right, 316 respondents (56%) thought there had been too much new housing, 9 people (2%) thought not enough new housing had been built and 51 people (9%) had no opinion. 549 people gave a response to the question on housing needs. Around 56% want some housing development, 205 people (37%) thought no more housing was required and 38 people (7%) had no opinion. The table below shows responses to the need for various types of housing.
417 respondents (77%) believe that development in Hemyock should be reduced with provision being made in other settlement areas. When asked about the development of housing stock in Hemyock over the forthcoming 10 years, 357 people (64%) said they would like to see the stock remain the same. However, it is worth bearing in mind any benefits that could result through further housing development i.e. play area/car park etc. The Table on next page shows the responses of those who would like to see some increase in housing stock. Editor’s Comment "Oh dear, this would surely make the average age of village inhabitants even older, because house prices would inevitably rise, stopping young people from buying houses locally." Respondents were asked if the Parish Council should seek suitable premises in Hemyock for com-munity use. 274 respondents (50%) said "yes", 197 people (36%) said "no", 75 (14%) had no opinion. Respondents were also asked what use they would support in such a building. 243 people answered this question, with many supporting more than one option. Results can be seen in the table below. Editor’s Comment Over the past 10 years especially the Parish Council has desperately needed a building of its own. (To provide an area for our 3 computers, the tithe map, parish meetings, civic functions, etc.) It would be of great interest to be H.G. Well's hero and journey forward 50 years to see what the village thinks then of no need for community premises. The Parish Council has some foresight. The Appraisal then asked if the Playgroup would benefit from moving from the Parish Hall to new premises nearer the school. The same question was asked about the Mothers and Toddlers Group. The Charts below show responses. Charts showing response to whether Childcare Facilities should move
We can see that there is not support for moving the Mother & Toddler group and opinion is split over moving the playgroup. Further investigation needs to be undertaken with users of the two groups. A knock-on effect of groups moving from the Parish Hall would mean increased availability of the Hall during the day time. The table below shows the responses of how the Hall could be used. Table to show Support for Suggested Parish Hall Daytime Uses
Current Facilities Respondents were asked for their opinion of current social/recreational facilities for various age groups within the parish. The table below shows responses to this question and shows facilities for those under 26 years to be poor, with facilities for those between 26 and 60 being seen as reasonable and views on those for over 60s split between reasonable and good. This shows a need for additional facilities, especially those for children and young people. Table to show Respondents Views on Social/Recreational Facilities
Future Improvements to Recreational Facilities Respondents were then asked if they felt that funding should be found to improve social/recreational facilities for young people. 74% of all respondents felt that money should be sought for this purpose, and 97% of those respondents who were themselves aged 11-16 supported this. Playing Field Respondents were asked if they felt the site at Station Road should be developed as a playing field. 71% of respondents (383 people) said "yes", 17% (94 people) said "no" and 12% have no opinion. The Chart below shows this support. Chart to show Support for Playing Field Development
Respondents were then asked if they thought Hemyock would benefit in incorporating plans for a sports hall and floodlit hard track onto the proposed playing field. 47% of respondents (248 people) said "yes", 38% (198 people) said "no" and 15% had no opinion.
