Although there has been a great deal of new housebuilding, only 9% of respondents have lived in the village for less than one year, most have lived here for between one year and fifteen, with a substantial number between 26 and 50 years. 4% of respondents have lived here for half a century.

Housing

Q11
Regarding the sort of housing needs the village has, there was a good spread from starter homes to buy or rent to family homes to buy or rent. a smaller proportion felt there was a need for sheltered housing, residential care or other.

Employment

Q12
About half are employed, a third wholly retired. A good proportion - 8% are self employed. Only l% are unemployed.

60% of people work or study within 10 miles of the village; a good proportion - 19% - work or study at home.

Q14
Of the 67% of respondents in paid employment, over half - 53% - are either professional or managerial.

Q15
88% of those not in paid employment were not seeking work. Many of these will be those working at home bringing up their own children, or retired people.

Of those seeking work, the largest proportion were seeking clerical work, then unskilled manual, though the largest proportion (34.5%) were seeking "other" work. 29% of people looking for work had been doing so for less than 6 months, though 14% have been looking for over 2 years.

Barriers that prevent people from taking up employment varied enormously, though by far the main reason was family commitment, lack of employment opportunities and financial.

Education and Training

Q17
Exminster is a well qualified village, with over a third having a degree or diploma. 16% have GCSE or equivalent,23% have no qualifications.

Q18
Two thirds are not interested in vocational training opportunities, though or those who do have a need, 43% are interested in new technolgy, 40% in professional or managerial, 21% in skilled/craft related.

44% could get to Exeter, 28% to Dawlish, 14% could get to Teignmouth or Newton Abbot.

Q19
Only 9% felt that provision for adult learning was good, 36% reasonable, 17% poor, 36% have no opinion.
