Environment A very important issue and one which generated a big response was the question on the water and sewage systems.
139 (61%) people on the mains have problems with water discolouration several times a year and 33 (15%) more frequently. 26 people have experienced other water problems. 21 people have reported their problems in writing and 86 by phone. Massive concern about the level of sewage in the Dart was expressed by 94% (229) and the feeling is that Dittisham’s sewage system is inadequate 56% all year and 64% at holiday times.
Not many people were fully aware of South West Water’s plans to deal with Torbay’s sewage as shown in the graph below.
158 people would attend a presentation by SWW Environment Agency. Recycling would be a popular move with 181 for separating plastic, 191 for tins and cans, 206 for paper and 212 for bottles and glass. 141 would be prepared to keep garden waste separate. Although 39% think location and number of litter bins sufficient 35% think otherwise - perhaps a particular area has a problem. Local Countryside To keep the local countryside looking good it was considered that the following are very important or worth doing.
Footpaths and Bridleways 60% (125) have no problem here but 24% (50) have encountered some difficulty in following the routes. 81(39%) would like to see new maps drawn up and 15 people in the Parish are prepared to help maintain the paths on a regular basis. Trees Parishioners have a high regard for the trees in the village considering it very important or worth doing the following:
We also think it important to plant more trees, copses and orchards.
Clean Up Parish Beach Day 134 people (57%) are prepared to turn out to clean up the beach twice a year.
