EMPLOYMENT

The following shows the main places of work/study:

  • 75 (38%) at Home.
  • 84 (43%) away from home but within 10 miles.
  • 23 (12%) within 11-30 miles.
  • 15 (8%) over 30 miles
  • 9 (5%) within Parish.

There are 62 people running a business in the Parish, most of them as sole traders, 25% of whom are in agriculture and a further 25% are in the hotel/catering or tourism industry.

There are 5 people who intend becoming self employed within the next 12 months, and a further 28 people might want to set themselves up as self employed, but a mixture of reasons prevent them from doing so:

  • 12 through lack of finance.
  • 9 through lack of contacts.
  • 7 through lack of business skills.
  • 6 through lack of premises.
  • 5 through lack of confidence.

Business Units

There was considerable objection to making land available for small business units:

  • 139 (58%) No to units
  • 46 (19%) Yes to units.
  • 56 (23%) No opinion.

Recommendations

  1. To encourage those wanting to become self employed to access the necessary skills /training.
  2. To assist those seeking paid employment.
  3. The Parish Council to bring to the attention of the District Council’s Planning Authority the fact that 19% of the Parish thought there was a need for land for small business units.
