251 forms were distributed and I 66 households responded (66%). This is an excellent response and
we are grateful to you for making the exercise worthwhile.
Question 4 was concerned with alternative accommodation in Copplestone. 11% (18 respondents were
looking for alternative accommodation). 298 people thought their present accommodation was
suitable, with 24 people dissatisfied.
Employment
At the time ofthe Appraisal 4% of respondents, [12 people] classified themselves as unemployed,
whilst 44% [170 respondents] were employed/self employed. The majority of the remainder are
retired or in full-time education or training [Q9].
Most people, 66%, travel less than 10 miles to work or study - with 23% not travelling at all, they work at home. Eleven people [5%] travel more than 30 miles to work each day.
The kind of work residents do was asked in Q11a. The categories of the 157 employed respondents are set out in the chart above.
Eighteen people who are not in paid employment are seeking work, mostly part-time jobs. Of those seeking work seven have been searching for more than six months.
Question 13 asked about barriers to taking up employment, training or study opportunities.
The majority of responses [169 people] saw no barriers. The barriers which were identified were most commonly; financial [18], family commitment [16] and lack of public transport [13].
Education & Training
Question 15 asked respondents to list their formal qualifications. Of 233 respondents 70 had no qualifications at all, which is nearly a third. The following question indicated 76 people interested in vocational training, the majority in new technology and computing [36 people]. There was also clear interest in clerical/secretarial training and skilled/craft related training.
There were mixed opinions about adult learning provision in the area. Crediton and Exeter were identified as the easiest centres to get to for training.
