Introduction
The completed questionnaires involved 261 households. The replies represented 622 people of which 572 were in the 11+ category and therefore had the opportunity to respond to the questions. This represents a return from about 52% of households in the parish. This was a very good response.

Housing
The table shows what sort of housing people felt was needed in Chulmleigh.

There was strong support for housing for young and local people, with a significant requirement for housing for low income families. However, from the 22 people and families seeking alternative housing in Chulmleigh in the next three years, about one third are looking for family homes.
Employment
The striking figure that emerged was the very low incidence of unemployment amongst those who replied (2%). There are a re-assuring number of people running businnesses in the parish. From those replying, their businesses employ 172 people.
The major areas of employment are agriculture (26%) followed by professional services (16%) and construction (15%). A Significant number are involved in retail/repairs (12%) and hotels and catering/tourism (10%). Just over a quarter questioned are in employment and a further 16% are self-employed.
The other statistic which is satisfying is the very high percentage who are actually employed in or within 10 miles of the parish (67%).
The main barriers to employment were lack of employment opportunities, lack of public and private transport. Employers have found it difficult to fill skilled manual posts.
It is good news that 10 employers are looking to increase their workforce in the next twelve months and that the others all intend their workforce to remain the same.
Education And Training
Of those who replied, 29% would be interested in taking vocational training opportunities now or in the future. Fifty one people are looking to improve their skills in new technology and computing. Other training needs highlighted included professional, managerial and the skilled, craft related areas. Many favoured Chulmleigh as the most accessible centre, however a significant number were also able to travel to South Molton, Barnstaple and Crediton.
Of the 467 who expressed an opinion the majority (304) thought provision for adult learning in Chulmleigh was reasonable to good.
The Community College was highly valued. From 502 responses over 90% (453) thought the Community College was important or very important to the local community.
