A Community Appraisal for Chardstock Parish OTHER SERVICES! The following services are considered reasonable to good : MAINS WATER The following are considered rather poor: ROAD MAINTENANCE “Too many potholes which take too long to fill!” Most people have no opinion on the reliability of the public telephone call boxes [presumably we all have mobiles? Eds.].
Although most think that Neighbourhood Watch is a good idea and would like to be in a scheme, there is general ignorance about it, with few people knowing who their co-ordinator is, and nearly a third not knowing whether they are in a scheme or not! “More communication” “Better publicity” “It’s me!” Nearly everyone reads the Newsletter and most consider the contents to be about right.
Those who use the Mobile Library find the service reasonable to good, although it is only used by a very small number of people, possibly because of its limited route and stopping places. EMPLOYMENT The greatest number of replies express no opinion as to whether more employment is required! Those who do have an opinion favour agriculture, forestry and fishing, and we did have suggestions of employing a road maintenance man and a local ‘bobby’! “Tourism – no way!” “Any job that I can get …..” WHAT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO SEE IN THE PARISH? Here is a selection of the suggestions made: Seat by Post Office More benches
