A Community Appraisal for Chardstock Parish

Index

PARISH AFFAIRS

Most people have no opinion on whether the Parish should have a higher profile, but of those who did express an opinion, a sizeable majority thought it should not.

Meeting PictureParish Council affairs are clearly not popular, with over half the respondents not knowing how the Parish precept is spent, although 1/5th are quite satisfied with the way it is spent. If extra funding is required, most people would support fund raising, then sponsorship, or moderate Council Tax increases.

84% have not attended either a Parish Council meeting or an Annual Parish meeting, and not surprisingly, several comments were made about a lack of knowledge of Parish Affairs! However, nearly 35% of respondents would like to see more information about the Parish Council in the monthly Newsletter – [perhaps about how the precept is spent and what representations are made to District Council and other bodies.Eds.]

EMERGENCY SERVICES

It is worth pointing out that the majority of us have no recent experience of using the emergency services – happily. Most feel that the standard of these services is reasonable to good, with the ambulance service coming out best. There were, however, a number of adverse comments about policing and the police force.

Most people think that the emergency services would find their property easily enough, although nearly 20% think that there may be problems, and there were many suggestions for improving this situation.

“999, 01460 & EX13 are incompatible!!”
