HOW WE GET ABOUT

Exclamation MarkSome do not find it easy!

32 people had to turn down a job opportunity because of lack of transport.

9 reported a total lack of transport of any kind. 8% of respondents had no car.

Walking more safely

A footpath between Dousland and Woodmans Corner along the line of the busy narrow section of the main Princetown road is strongly favoured. The communities responses in favour were as follows:

Getting around by bus?

BusNearly as many walk as go by bus!

Sheepstor and the outlying hamlets and farms are not served by bus.

‘It would be impossible for me to use the bus to get to work on time in Plymouth. There is no local service to connect in the early morning or in the evening’

‘…bus not available at work times’

No part of the parish is served by bus after 6 p.m. for which 95% of respondents rated the bus service "POOR"

‘..bus not available after 6 p.m. or before 7.30 a.m.

15 people found the lack of buses after school interfered with getting to social activities.

Some found the suggestion attractive, that a bus service be provided where there is currently none. 13 extra would use daily for all purposes, another 3 weekly, 3 each month and 29 occasionally.

‘I used to use the bus. Due to the inconvenience of bus operating times I was forced to acquire a car – this option is both cheaper and faster’

‘I would not use a bus unless there was a serious reduction in tariffs’

46 people use the service regularly for shopping and a further 85 use if occasionally.

When and where the bus is provided, respondents rated the service as good or reasonable for adherence to timetable (93%) and route (85%).

Recommendation: The Parish Council to determine the number and location of people affected by limited hours and route coverage. The results should be presented to Devon County Council Transportation Centre.

Use of the car!

Car

A high proportion of households (45%) keep two or more cars while (47%) keep one.

48 people want to car-share. 20 have a seat available and would share costs.

‘Need more information on car-share’.

Recommendation: The Parish Council to seek support for a "car-sharing" scheme as operated in other areas.

Overall recommendation: Set up a Transport Group at the Public Meeting.
