EMPLOYMENT

Out of the 414 people who work or study, 164 travel to Plymouth. 98 work at home and 61 work or study in Tavistock.

64% of people had no strong opinion about whether business –related options should be encouraged. More interest was shown in small business development, community reprographics and small-scale industrial workshops.

A lot of suggestions were given about what types of business and enterprise need provision or help. Common suggestions related to farming, local crafts and tourism.

31% of respondents were in favour of both rentable and community craft units. The majority of people had no strong opinion. There were a lot of general comments about craft areas but the main topics can be grouped into land management, wood/metalwork, and pottery/arts.

The final part of the questionnaire offered space for further comments that people had, either on any of the questions or about the future of Buckland Monachorum, Crapstone and Milton Combe. 68 people used this space. There were a lot of further comments about "Traffic and Highways" and "Transport" also about the environment, local services and activities. There were other issues raised that hadn’t been in the questionnaire and it appeared to be a welcome opportunity for people to write and comment on a range of topics. Subjects ranged from personal statements to suggestions about what the community could do to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

10 slips were returned with people asking for more information about anything within the questionnaire or offering help.
