THE QUESTIONNAIRE 622 questionnaires were delivered to households in Buckland Monachorum, Milton Combe and Crapstone. Each questionnaire could be completed by up to 6 members of the household. 288 questionnaires were returned with 613 people involved in completing them. The decision to widen the area and include Milton Combe and Crapstone was justified, with good response from both communities. There was an overall response of 46%. This success was due to the time given by the Steering group and other volunteers within the community.
TRAFFIC AND HIGHWAYS
Support for further speed control/safety measures was mixed. Traffic calming was not favoured in Milton Combe, although more warning signs were. The vote in both Buckland Monachorum and Crapstone was quite evenly split over support for speed restrictions. Lists of suggestions and locations have been compiled; again a lot of different options were suggested. 75% of people who gave their opinion, thought that the state of the roads, pavements, verges, street lighting and footpaths and bridleways were good or reasonable.
'Main street in Buckland Monachorum is rat run' 'Speed of cars down/up road' 'More regular policing of current limits' 'Parking restrictions' PUBLIC TRANSPORT Less than half the respondents stated that they used public transport with just over half of those dissatisfied with it. In particular 90% of 17-21 year olds who use public transport were dissatisfied with it. 88 people were totally dependent on public transport. A very high percentage never used the bus service for any reason. People would be encouraged to use the bus service more with better timetabling, connections at Yelverton and through ticketing (one ticket covering the whole journey). Responses suggest that 178 passengers would be attracted to use the service if more buses were available throughout the day including early morning and late evening. Of the people who have used public transport for accessing health services the vast majority have found it difficult, particularly getting to the doctor and the hospital. YOUR COMMENTS - PUBLIC TRANSPORT 'Poor service, not worth looking at' 'Would like to use it more often' 'Make the bus faster and/or cars slower' 'Increased availability' SCHOOL TRANSPORT In answer to the question about traffic at St. Andrew’s school of those who expressed an opinion, nearly all thought there was a traffic problem when parents drop off and collect children from St. Andrew’s school. A small percentage would consider alternative options for getting children to school instead of using a car. YOUR COMMENTS - SCHOOL TRANSPORT 'Cycling if cycle tracks were safer' 'Buses for after-school clubs at 4:00pm'
