Bridestowe Parish Appraisal - The Results

Section A - General Issues

Housing

126 households completed the questionnaire.

41% (52) households within the village
59% (74) households outside the village but within the Parish

People were asked what type of housing was required.

What type of housing is required?

7 people were in need of alternative accommodation in the next 10 years.

Varied types of accommodation would be needed, including two for sheltered housing and one for residential care.

Private Parking

Cars - 126 households have recorded having a total of 179 cars and 3 motorbikes.

90% (160) of vehicles are kept in a garage or off the road. The remaining 10% (17) are parked on the road.

Car Parking

The question asked was, is there a parking problem in the village?

60% (54 people) of those living in the village who answered the question, say there is a parking problem.
48% (62 people) living outside the village say there is no parking problem.

Speeding

Whilst 57% (68) of those living outside the village do not see speeding as a problem, 71% (76) within the village do see a problem. The favoured solution being sleeping policemen (65 people - 59% of those wanting improvements).

A few comments were recorded on the questionnaire that a speed restriction along the old A30 and A386 would be welcomed.

Public Transport

The rating for the bus service was generally reasonable although 16 comments were made on the questionnaire, the main ones were:

  • the bus services are not frequent enough
  • the fares could be reduced
  • more buses could call into the village rather than stopping at the Fox and Hounds
  • better timing to coincide with doctors etc. at Okehampton and Tavistock. Very important - could be raised with bus company.

    Sewage Disposal/Flooding

63% of households outside the village expressed no opinion on the question of sewage disposal - presumably all are on private septic tank systems. 6 households in the village and 4 outside the village believe it is poor - maybe these 10 households have a specific problem, which the appraisal would not have identified. Some 23 households recorded problems of flooding.

    Health & Social Services

Those without transport, although only a small number, had difficulty getting to services.
