26. EMPLOYMENT In order to assist Parish Councils in improving the well-being of their parishioners the following responses might be worthy of note:
10 consider lack of start-up finance as a restriction 6 consider lack of contacts as a restriction 6 consider lack of premises as a restriction and other issues were identified as restrictions. Recommendation: Parish Councils to take note of these obstacles to employment and consider in what ways they might be able to assist parishioners in obtaining appropriate work. 27. FOR ARLINGTON ONLY32 people (60%) consider there should be more co-operation and communication with the National Trust. Recommendation: Parish Council to analyse survey responses to identify Parish concerns, to ensure the National Trust is made aware of Parish concerns, and to seek ways to improve co-operation/communication with the National Trust. 35 people (67% of respondents to this question) consider that the Old School site should be developed for community use. ‘I don’t think people would use the facilities even if they were renovated; I’m quite happy with Kentisbury Village Hall’ ‘It’s a disgrace that such an old building should be left to fall into such a state of disrepair’ Recommendation: Parish Council to set up a Working Party to explore the feasibility of acquiring the Old School site for community use and to produce a written report on their conclusions. 28. FOR TRENTISHOE ONLYOn the issues of more co-operation/communication with the National Trust, Trentishoe is more divided in its opinion than Arlington: 13 people consider there should be more co-operation/communication 11 people consider there should not be more, and 3 have no opinion. ‘The trust does not always represent our views. In some cases they have been seen to do things before consultation’ ‘The National Trust is national: to reflect local views it should be the ‘Local trust’. At present its views are ‘imported’’ Recommendation: Parish Council to analyse the responses to the survey and in the light of that analysis, to consider whether it should take further action to improve co-operation/communication with the National Trust.
