Devon and Cornwall Record Society : a shelf-list of the collections
The collections of the Devon and Cornwall Record Society are held at Devon Heritage Centre, Sowton, Exeter, together with the local studies collections formerly held at the Westcountry Studies Library. It is not necessary to be a member of the Society to use these collections for your research. Access to the collection is free.
The volumes and microfilms in the collection are available on open access in the searchroom at the heritage centre; boxed materials are held in strongrooms, and can be ordered up at the searchroom desk.
For further information on the Society and how to become a member, see the Devon and Cornwall Record Society website.
This listing of the Society's collections is based on the work undertaken by Stephen Stride during 1986, and was updated by Ann Howard, the former local studies librarian, to take account of later accessions. Items included in earlier lists, but omitted here, were not found in the shelf check conducted during the original revision of this list in 1986. The list is divided into sections as follows:
A: Society publications, old series.
B: Society publications, new series.
C: Society publications, extra series.
F: Family information files (in reserve).
G: Parish information files (in reserve).
P: Inhabitant lists covering more than one parish. By year.
Q: Family histories. By name.
R: Miscellaneous records. Alphabetically by type.
S: Periodicals. By title.
W: Nonconformist registers on microfilm (in reserve).
X: Devon parish records.
Y: Marriage indexes for Devon and Cornwall.
Z: Cornwall parish records.
