Devon County Council’s public wifi service – terms and conditions

By connecting to Devon County Council’s public wifi service, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

Devon County Council may restrict access to certain services where they are found or suspected to:

  • be unlawful
  • be offensive
  • be obscene
  • contain indecent material

We will not control or otherwise influence your use of the service, except where internet services you attempt to access are automatically restricted by the controls described above.

You must not use the public wifi service for any unlawful purposes, including but not limited to:

  • activity which could lead to security breaches or disruptions of any network communications including network sniffing, pinged floods, packet spoofing, denial of service and forged routing information for malicious purposes
  • port scanning or security scanning
  • carrying out any form of network monitoring
  • circumventing authentication or security of any host, network or account or running password cracking programs
  • interfering with, or denying access to the public wifi service (for example, through a denial of service attack)
  • using any program/script/command, or sending messages of any kind, with the intent of interfering with or disabling any client session using any means either locally or externally
  • downloading, installing or executing any file containing malware that may damage or compromise computer systems or data
  • downloading or introducing tools or utilities that may potentially be used for hacking activities and undertaking any such activity whilst connected to our public wifi service
  • defacing websites, downloading and distributing pornography, running a gambling operation or undertaking any other activity using Council resources that would bring us into disrepute

We will store information about your use of the public wifi service which may include personal data. This information will be processed in accordance with the use of public wifi privacy notice.

We do not provide technical support to users of the public wifi service, except where the user holds a DCC IT account and access takes place using a Devon County Council corporately managed device.

We may change these terms and conditions at any time. We’ll tell you about any change by announcing changes through the public wifi connection screen, at least 10 days before the change happens. If you don’t accept the change, you must stop using the public wifi service.
