Mobile Library

Update – November 2010

Following the public consultation held earlier in the year, proposals were developed for changes to the mobile library stops. These proposals were sent to Devon County Council Members and Town and Parish Councils in July for comment. Feedback fed into the development of the new mobile library routes which has now been completed.

The new routes will start in January 2011, and will include:

  • A number of new Saturday morning stops in larger communities
    • Bradninch
    • Dunkeswell
    • Exminster
    • Hatherleigh
    • Hemyock
    • Modbury
    • North Tawton
    • Willand
    • Yelverton
  • Stops offered later in the afternoons, to allow working families and young people to use the service
  • Longer stops at central community locations to allow increased browsing time. Where possible, stops have been linked to existing community activities, such as coffee mornings, lunch clubs and preschool sessions.

Before the launch of the new routes, we will be making improvements to the book stock on all the mobile library vehicles, including adding a collection of DVDs to each one. The vans themselves are also going to be updated with the Devon Libraries brand.

To allow us time to make these improvements before the January launch, the current service will finish on Friday 26th November. Customers will be able to borrow extra books from their mobile library during November and return them at their new stop during January, or they may return books to a static library instead during December.

Timetables for the new routes are now available here, or from your Mobile Library Driver. Copies are also being sent to Town and Parish Councils.
