In January 2002 Devon County Council was awarded £725,000 from the Department for Transport Home Zone Challenge Fund which runs until March 2005. The Home Zone is a European idea and the challenge fund is aimed at trialling them across the country.
The Wonford design process has been lead by the local residents with guidance from Devon County Council officers. Construction of the Home Zone started on October 11th with Cllr David Morrish performing the “Sod Cutting Ceremony”. Work is progressing well with a planned finish in the early spring.
