Asbestos Disposal - Charges
From 1 April 2011, charges* apply to bonded asbestos brought to certain Recycling Centres in Devon:-
*Except Night Storage Heaters. Please note that only sites in the list above have the facility to accept Night Storage Heaters.
See Chargeable Waste for more information on charging.
For the avoidance of doubt; any item which the site staff deem to contain asbestos will be treated as asbestos (regardless of any analysis or certificates that may have been obtained to state the material is asbestos free) and restrictions/charges will apply.
Acceptable types of asbestos
Asbestos is acceptable at Exeter, Great Torrington, Honiton, Kingsbridge, Newton Abbot, Okehampton, Tavistock and Tiverton Recycling Centres. The following types of asbestos are acceptable:-
Night Storage Heaters
Night Storage Heaters containing/not containing asbestos may be disposed of free of charge at all sites accepting asbestos as above. If the heater contains asbestos, the whole heater must be double wrapped in plastic and sealed.
Heaters may be separated into their component parts for ease of transport, however please note that if bricks within the heater are brought in without an accompanying heater carcass, they will be treated as asbestos or rubble upon receipt at the Recycling Centre, and the relevant charge will apply.
Please call Devon County Council Waste Management on 0845 155 1010 for further details.
