When considering where to advertise your vacancy the first question that you need to ask yourself is who are you targeting and where would they be likely to find your vacancy.
For all DCC vacancies any local press advert will appear as a composite advert. A composite advert contains more than one vacancy going into a particular press and can come from any department within Devon County Council. This is done to keep the costs as low as possible. Costs vary greatly but an analysis over the last 12 months has shown that the average cost of a single vacancy for local press is £600.
There is a wide range of general and trade specific websites that you can use to advertise vacancies. These tend to be cheaper than press adverts and often come with 'extras' e.g. buttons on their home page highlighting your role or emails to their database of relevant jobseekers.
For large campaigns you may want to consider the use of a microsite. You need to allow a minimum budget of £2500. Microsites are a good way of providing a lot of information about the role, organisation and department in one place.
National press is particularly strong for high level, senior vacancies and we would always recommend doing a creative/colour advert, as well as copywriting your adverts to keep the cost down.
