Small businesses are the life blood of Devon’s economy. They create more jobs and add more value than any other sector, and in a time of recession they can grow.

Devon Business Angels brings together small companies wanting to grow and individual investors who have skills and expertise that can help those small companies develop. This has mutual benefits: it offers Devon businesses the chance to grow; it enables investors the opportunity to invest their money locally; and ultimately it serves to improve the Devon economy, bringing benefit to all. The scheme is only open to businesses that are looking to grow – it is not a rescue package

The scheme is administered on behalf of Devon County Council by the Devon and Cornwall Business Council, and is just one of the practical ways in which these organisations, working together, are planning to ensure success now and in the future for the economy of the south west.

The scheme is simple: investors contact the Devon and Cornwall Business Council directly for a completely confidential conversation. Details are taken of the likely investment opportunity they would wish to be engaged with and in which sector, together with details of any specific skills or expertise that they can bring to small companies.

Meanwhile, companies wishing to investigate this source of funding and intellectual capital also contact Devon and Cornwall Business Council to arrange a meeting. The information gleaned at this meeting is put by the company (and if appropriate their advisors) into a brief proposition which is circulated to relevant interested investors.

The Devon and Cornwall Business Council acts as broker by bringing together those parties that express an interest, and will, where needed, facilitate the meeting but not the deal. Devon and Cornwall Business Council will provide access to suitable legal and financial expertise.

Colleagues in Business Link and other business organisations can also refer investors and businesses to the scheme.
