Apprenticeship Schemes
Apprenticeships offer people the chance of paid employment linked with the opportunity to train for a career. They are a bridge between the world of education and the world of work and provide the opportunity to train while in a job. For employers, they are a chance to recruit highly motivated staff and train them in the skills their businesses need. Nationally, the Apprenticeship system is being reformed and improved to make on-the-job training match the best in the world.
A pilot Apprenticeship scheme was introduced to Devon County Council (DCC) during 2006, giving local school and college leavers an excellent opportunity to come and work for the County Council whilst, at the same time, gaining nationally recognised qualifications. As a result of this a DCC corporate apprenticeship programme has been established as part of our workforce strategy.
We aim to recruit apprentices each year and will continue to develop and expand the programme in line with organisational needs.
Devon County Council currently has apprenticeship programmes in Business and Administration; Customer Service; ICT; Civil Engineering; and Health and Social Care.
