Links to web sites for religious education

These links are included as useful to teachers in Devon schools using the Devon, Plymouth and Torbay Agreed Syllabus (2001).

Some starter sites for each of the principal religions.

There is a good range of material with a religious dimension.
It can provide opportunity for access to
  • members of faith communities
  • accounts of first hand experiences
  • a school site where pupils may publish their work
There is a range of types of useful material:
  • Religious communities from around the world have their own sites that give an insight into their beliefs and practices
  • Religious documents, scriptures, texts provide first-hand resource material
  • Liturgical material
  • Charities and organisations describe their current work
  • Information about religious sites of the world
  • Virtual tours and visits
  • Pictures, photographs and images, sounds and music
  • Newspapers, religious journals
  • Personal pages of individuals that describe their religious experiences
  • Other pupils’ work
Some sites are helpful for teachers but not pupils. Teachers are reminded that they must evaluate the material available. Pupils also need to develop evaluation skills. Where is this site coming from? Does it reflect a personal view or a view of the community? Is it authentic? Does it match with what I already know about the religion?
