Video-Based Learning

dcs has been working for a number of years to develop the use of video to support teaching and learning. The project started with a focus on Physical Education and a number of successful pilot projects in Devon and in 5 other LEAs across the country.

The use of video based feedback and analysis has had a significant impact on the PE community - such facilities are now seen as an essential component in teaching and learning in PE.

dcs has worked in partnership with Swiss based software developer Dartfish to provide the ICT based systems to support video based learning. Dartfish produce a range to packages.

It became clear from the work in PE that Dartfish software platform has the potential to support teaching and learning across the curriculum. In recognition of this Dartfish have released Dartfish Classroom - a product which can be networked and used on IT systems across the school. Work has already taken place in exploring the potential of the software in Science, Drama, English, History and a number of other subject areas.

"Dartfish Classroom provides video management and analysis tools that are of relevance to all teachers. There is significant potential in using the software with Interactive Whiteboards, in ICT Suites and on individual systems to support teaching and learning. It can be used by both pupils and teachers and can contribute to the embedding of ICT across the curriculum."
