School Links

Central Middle School, Exeter
Masithandane School in Khayelitsha

In March 2000, DCS Advisers Martin Phillips and Tim Arnold visited Cape Town as part of the Media 2000 Millennium Project. One of the strands of this project was to visit three schools and make a video with the children at each of them for a school in Devon.

The children at Masithandance, a public primary school, planned and made their video for children at Central Middle School in Exeter. Children at Central are currently planning their return video which they will be filming in July.

When the video is finished, Central Middle will start to link individual Year 6 classes and students. Masithandane have had a computer in the head's office for a few months which was provided by Sandra Barratt and her students at St Luke's High School, Exeter. It was only in June that we heard Masithadane were online. As there are over 1000 students at the school and, at the moment, only one computer, the link with Central will be conducted by letter and fax as well as email!

The link with South Africa is one of a number of links Central are developing with schools around the world, including Hungary and Sweden.
