Supporting the township schools

The Chris Hani school in Langa was completely repainted with money from the Crossings support programme.

An ongoing fund-raising programme has been an integral part of the CROSSINGS project. We recently received the following letter and photos from Esther Carmickle-Ramusi who has coordinated work on the ground in Cape Town.

24th July 1999
"I am taking this time to thank each one of you for the fine manner in which you assisted the schools in the Townships and Cape Town as well.
Thandokhulu High school is now in an advantageous position to operate more effectively with the Computer Table in place as well as the Soap dispensers for the many wash rooms where they were needed, we all say thank you much.
Chris Hani Community school is now a brighter facility with their new coat of paint. We thank you for assisting us with the Rands to make the above a reality, we all say a big thank you much.
Stormont Modubela Community School is now with their Library container in place all because of you and others. I say thank you, very, very much. Our little learners now have a place to sit and read after classes and during library time during the day.
Devon, England and friends, we are all sending a big thank you for assisting us in making all the above a reality for the children of South Africa."
Sincerely
Esther Carmickle-Ramusi

The Chris Hani school in Langa was completely repainted with money from the Crossings support programme.

Part of the refurbishment of Chris Hani was directly linked to improving conditions for learning. The 'dividers' make concentration easier for the pupils.

The 'dividers' also provide display space for learning resources.

Stormont Primary school in Guguletu is housed mainly in old shipping containers.

With a little care and attention they can provide an acceptable learning environment

The Crossing project contributed to the fund which provided a library for Stormont.

At Thandokhulu High School in Mowbray, Mrs Maleko, the Principal, asked for help with a new computer desk for the library which is now installed.

In addition to the projects described here, the Crossings programme has also collected a range of books to help various curriculum areas. Delivered free by DHL, this is the arrival of the first dispatch to Thandokhulu High School.
