Connect 2 - Kingsteignton to Newton Abbot
Devon County Council is proposing to build a dedicated cycle and foot path linking Town Quay in Newton Abbot with Church Street, Kingsteignton and The Passage House Inn. As part of the planning process, a public exhibition was held on 29 March at Old Forde House, Newton Abbot, where details and plans of the proposals were on display. The Exhibition material can be viewed here

The Connect 2 project is a priority cycle route in the south of the county as without this scheme there is no link to the north bank of the River Teign. It is planned to extend the path to reach Teignmouth.
The complete length of the cycleway will be approximately 2.5km, and will also include a new link from Hackney Marshes to the River Teign. The scheme will involve improving and widening existing footpaths to accommodate cyclists, and building a new toucan crossing on Greenhill Way, Kingsteignton. A dramatic new bridge is also planned to cross the River Teign near the existing railways bridge, and will link with Forde Road in Newton Abbot.
A planning application for the project is due to be submitted shortly, and subject to permission and final agreement from landowners, the likelihood is that work from Kingsteignton to The Passage House Inn will start this autumn.
It is hoped the section of the cycleway from The Passage House Inn to Town Quay will become part of the National Cycle Network Route 2 (NCN2 Dover to Penzance), which is promoted by Sustrans, the UK's leading sustainable transport charity.
The early stages of negotiation for the remainder of the route to Teignmouth are underway.
