Council Tax
The money collected through council tax helps pay for a proportion of the County Council’s services. We provide services to almost 750,000 people in Devon (excluding Plymouth and Torbay).
Our services include:
- Education
- Roads
- Care for the elderly and disabled
- Child protection
- Youth services
- Libraries
- Recycling centres and the disposal of waste.
Council tax is collected by your local district council and distributed across a number of public authorities:
District Council – Refuse collection, kerbside recycling, housing, planning, street cleaning and leisure
Devon & Cornwall Police Authority – Law and order and crime reduction
Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority – Fire prevention and fire and rescue services
Local Town and Parish Councils – For local amenities
For information on how this money is spent and detailed financial breakdown of spend across all authorities, please download the booklet for your area.
