Road Fit
The purpose of ROADFIT
ROADFIT is designed to help drivers maintain their safety by taking a one hour "observed drive" with a Devon Drivers' Centre Approved Driving Adviser.
Who is eligible?
Current driving licence holders who General Practitioners (GPs) feel would benefit. However, patients suffering from conditions which are notifiable, should in the first instance seek permission to continue driving, from the DVLA at Swansea.
(GPs - see DVLA publication "At a Glance Guide to Current Medical Standards of Fitness to Drive" or visit their website on http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/dmed1.htm)
Cost
For those who are referred by their GPs, the charge for the "observed drive" is £25. "Observed drives" can also be arranged without prior consultation with a GP by contacting Devon Drivers' Centre direct. In such cases, the charge is £27.50.
How are arrangements made?
- GP's issue referral cards to patients
- Patients contact the Devon Drivers' Centre, quoting the number on the referral card
- The Devon Drivers' Centre will arrange for an advisor to contact the patient direct, to agree a suitable time and date for the "observed drive"
- A verbal debrief and a written assessment is provided for the patient at the time of the "observed drive" and a copy is sent to the GP for information
