On-street Parking

Parking on the highway is allowed where it will not cause obstruction to other road users (including pedestrians and cyclists). There are no "rights" to park outside your own house or even in the same road.

Traffic Regulation Orders are in place to control on-street parking to ensure that there are minimal problems with traffic movements. A Traffic Order can also introduce pay and display parking in order to manage short term parking, usually in town centres. Details on Traffic Regulation Orders can be found here. Details of restrictions can also be obtained from your nearest Area Highway Management Office.
