Travel Plans in Devon
Aims and Objectives
Devon County Council's corporate Travel Plan was "published" in September 2001. The aim of the Travel Plan is to promote greener travelling habits and set an example to the people of Devon.
The objectives of the County Hall Travel Plan are -
- To create a flag-ship example so that developers from whom we require travel plans are inspired; and
- To reduce the number of cars arriving and departing County Hall.
Successes so far
Successful Travel Plans in Devon include -
- Devon County Council, Great Moor House, The Devon heritage & Information Centre, Exeter
- Devon County Council's 'Switch' Campaign
Plans for the Future
The County Council Scrutiny committee is currently considering the acceptability of allowing interest free bicycle loans to be purchased through payroll.
Agreement has been reached with payroll for individuals to purchase annual season tickets from Stagecoach at no extra charge, but paid for on a month-by-month basis.
The County Council is currently investigating purchasing a car-sharing system from its TravelWise budget which will be tailored to all residents in Devon, but could also be used by County Hall staff.
The County Hall management group recently agreed to increase enforcement of parking regulations on campus through the addition of more double yellow lines, dedicated on-road bicycle routes and is currently seeking support from senior management to issue "penalty notices" which state that three offences will result in the removal of the individuals parking permit. It also agreed that no more parking permits will be issued to new staff until a new system of allocation has been agreed through the unions.
