Sensory Bus
What is the Sensory Bus?
This is our specially converted and equipped bus that travels around the towns and villages of West Devon and Torridge on a regular timetable, offering a free, confidential and impartial service for people with a hearing and / or visual impairment. The unit has been adapted to include special listening devices, lighting and colour contrast.
Families, carers, neighbours, friends and professionals are also welcome to use the Bus.

What does the Sensory Bus offer?
- Trained staff who understand the effects of hearing and sight loss and can provide support and advice.

- A comprehensive range of equipment to address everyday difficulties e.g. hearing the doorbell / telephone / TV, reading newspapers, books, recipes etc. and labelling. These can be for demonstration, trial and loan.
- Advice and training in using the equipment.
- Manufacturers names and prices.
- A wide range of information and literature on hearing and visual impairment and services available locally and nationally.
- Information and referral to other agencies.
- Simple maintenance of NHS hearing aids, eg: batteries and retubing.

- Advice on coping with problems associated with hearing and visual impairment.
- Sensory Awareness training for businesses, employers, residential / nursing homes, clubs and schools etc - a charge may be made.
- A tail-lift for people unable to manage the steps.
![]() | The Sensory Bus is available for hire for exhibitions, open days, fetes etc and can be booked to come to a venue near you. The Bus operates on routes planned some weeks in advance, so if you know anywhere in the community that might benefit from a visit, please contact us as soon as possible. |
