Braunton to Barnstaple
A flat, off-road route, suitable for families, which runs along the banks of the River Taw . This is a good section for Wintering Wildfowl such as Curlew, Redshank, Dunlin, Golden Plover and Brent Geese, you may even see a rare Spoonbill. 
The route is signposted (NCN 27) from the Tourist Information Centre in Braunton. Passing through Chivenor, and crossing the tributary river Yeo on the new swing bridge.

Braunton
Braunton owes its origins to St Brannoc, who crossed from Wales in the dark ages. It is mentioned in Anglo-Saxon charter and now claims to be Devon’s largest village. It is also known for the Braunton Great Field, a remarkable survival of a medieval open field system. Braunton Burrows on the seaward side of Braunton it the Core of the North Devon Biophere Reserve.
