Strategic Intelligence
We will be a centre of excellence for information governance and research, to ensure effective and improving services for people in Devon"
The council's aim of being open and accountable should be balanced with the need to protect personal data, so we will meet our obligations under Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation ; develop and maintain legal accountability with records management and develop protocols for information sharing and security.
Valuing information as an asset requires that we have a clear picture of what information the council holds, and how to find it - we are developing taxonomy management and electronic document and records management to make information more findable.
Statistics on key themes such as community safety, economic activity; housing and population that support the priorities in the Strategic Plan are collated and published on our Devon Facts and Figures web pages and customisation is available on request to council members and officers for the provision of authoritative evidence to support service development, and also for partners, businesses and the public.
Intelligence best practice is shared through the Devon Intelligence Network which includes district councils, police fire and health authorities and the environment agency and which we co-ordinate.
We now have our Information Strategy 2008-2012
(371KB - pdf help) which details our plans to better understand the information we have and manage it accordingly:
- If it's public, make it accessible
- If it's sensitive, keep it secure
- And don't duplicate it unnecessarily
