Annual Report 2008 Appendices
Introduction
Performance results 2007/08
Collecting information on our current performance and comparing it with other local authorities helps us to improve our performance and set priorities that are right for Devon. The Government requires us to collect results for national targets and we add results from local targets to measure our progress against priorities described in our Strategic Plan 2006-2011.
The tables in this booklet set out the details of our performance against national targets (called Best Value Performance Indicators – BVPIs) and our Strategic Plan priorities. We also publish regular updates of our performance against our Strategic Plan priorities on our website at www.devon.gov.uk/strategicplan
Since 1 April 2008, our BVPIs have been replaced with some of the new 198 National Indicators (NIs) set by the Government. We have noted in the performance tables where we intend to stop collecting information on and reporting on BVPIs in favour of the new NIs. We intend to continue to collect data for some BVPIs for up to two years while baseline data is collected for the new NIs.
Summary of our performance
- Where we can compare our performance using the BVPIs with other councils, our 2006/07 performance was among the top half of authorities for 58% of indicators and among the top quarter for 39% of indicators.
- We do not yet know how our performance in 2007/08 compares with other local authorities for all the indicators but where we know this we have shown it.
- We have good reason to believe that our performance in 2007/08 will improve to show 67% of indicators in the top half and 42% in the top quarter.
- Comparing our 2007/08 BVPI performance with the previous year, 62% of indicators show improvement and a further 6% maintain maximum possible performance.
- We were on or above target for 54% of our indicators.
We will publish any changes to the data published here on our website at www.devon.gov.uk/annualreport2008
