BUS passengers in Newton Poppleford are benefiting from an improved shelter thanks to a grant from Devon County Council.

Local county councillor Christine Channon has presented Newton Poppleford Parish Council with a cheque for just over £881 from the County Committee's locality budget.

The money has paid for repairs to the shelter in Church Green, replacing the Perspex which was old and damaged.

Councillor Channon, Devon County Councillor for Budleigh, said: "The bus shelter was in desperate need of improvement because it is a popular stop with older residents and schoolchildren alike. I'm sure all of them will appreciate being kept drier and warmer while waiting for the bus, and it may encourage others to use public transport more often."

The funding has been welcomed by Newton Poppleford Parish Council.

Bryan Woodley, Newton Poppleford Parish Council Chairman, said: "The Parish Council is grateful to have received funding to repair the shelter, and as it is right in the centre of the village it's important that it is up to standard that people expect and deserve. Residents have certainly benefited during the recent downpours we've been experiencing."
