New low floor buses take to the road in Kenn, Exmouth and Exeter

From Pam Newby, Exeter 383654, June 03,2008

Passengers travelling on two bus routes in Exmouth and from Kenn to Exeter are benefiting from the introduction of new low-floor vehicles.

The routes, both operated by Dartline, are the 96/97 from Exmouth town centre to Byron Way and the 366 Kenn to Exeter including service U to Union Road and Beech Avenue and service M to Mount Dinham.

The services were previously operated by step entrance minibuses.

The routes, both financially supported by Devon County Council, are the latest to benefit from the introduction of low-floor vehicles.

Executive Member for Environment, Cllr Margaret Rogers, said: "We support the use of low-floor buses as part of our campaign to encourage more people to use public transport.

"People with mobility problems and parents and carers of young children often say they find access to normal height buses difficult. We have seen significant increases on other routes where low-floor vehicles are being used. The addition of these routes to those already existing in Devon is a most welcome development."
