Mid Devon Fare Car extends its service
From Adrian Lane, Exeter 383262, February 28, 2007
THE Fare Car scheme in Mid Devon is being extended from Monday 5 March.
The Fare Car F9 service, funded by Devon County Council, operates at regular intervals to and from Tiverton, taking in villages including Black Dog, Kennerleigh, Poughill, Puddington and Thelbridge on Mondays to Saturdays.
From next week it will also include Loxbeare, Oakford, Oakfordbridge and Stoodleigh.
The Fare Car, run by AD Coach Sales, runs to fixed arrival and departure times in the towns like a bus service, stopping at the points of the Bus Station, new Hospital, East Devon College, Exe Valley Leisure Centre, Morrisons and Tesco. The car will collect passengers from any address or point in the rural area that is accessible by car.
It offers an arrival in town at 08:30 and returning at 17:45. The fare is £2.50 per single journey.
Councillor Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council's Executive Member for Environment, said: "This service is of great benefit to anyone living in rural areas who may wish to travel for shopping, medical appointments, leisure and also for work and education. With the extension of the scheme into other villages in Mid Devon, more people will be able to access what is a vital lifeline."
Councillor Mary Turner, Devon County Councillor for Tiverton West, said: "Anything that helps people in rural areas has to be welcomed. Not everyone has a car so this will help them feel part of the wider community. I hope extending the service will make it a great success."
Councillor Michael Lee, Devon County Councillor for Newton St Cyres and Sandford, said: "I welcome the extension of the Fare Cars scheme. It helps plenty of people to travel into town and it will now help even more by serving other areas which are often seen as hard to reach."
