Introduction:
Welland House is a respite care unit for children aged 2.5 to 18 years with disabilities who live in North Devon. Older children can be accommodated in special circumstances by arrangement with the manager.
Welland House is open all year - apart from a week at Christmas. During the Easter and Summer school holidays, we run activity days for children with disabilities and arrange outings for them when possible.
At present there are ten places available for respite care, with two further places available for emergency admissions.
Facilities:
We have an extensive range of specialised equipment, including a jacuzzi.
Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists and other specialists regularly visit Welland House to work with the children and advise our experienced care staff.
Information:
In order that your child may be given the best possible care it is important that you inform us of any special problems that he or she may have, such as allergies, brittle bones etc. You should also tell us about your child's likes and dislikes, such as favourite music, games or video tapes so we can make his or her stay as happy as possible.
Booking a Place:
Respite care can be provided for anything from a short period, such as half an hour, up to two weeks - or longer at the discretion of the manager in special circumstances.
However, two weeks advance notice is usually the minimum we require to arrange respite care - and the greater notice you can give us, the greater the chance that we shall be able to accommodate your needs.
School holidays, particularly the summer, are our busiest times so please book your dates as early as possible.
Referrals are made direct to Welland House following agreement with the Care Manager.
