In February 2003 the Social Services Inspectorate(SSI) instigated an audit of services to children in need in response to the practice recommendations of the Victoria Climbie Inquiry report. The audit framework covers the recommendations of the Inquiry report relating to good professional practice and management and governance arrangements. The self-audit tool provided to Social Services Departments by the SSI will enable them to be satisfied that we have appropriate measures in place to ensure the quality of services to children in need, particularly those requiring child protection.

This website has been set up to help communicate Devon County Council's response to the Climbie inquiry and use of the self-audit tool. The evidence gathered by the audit will be validated by the SSI and the exercise is complementary to that being carried out in the police and health services.
