Open Day
![]() | On Saturday 17 March, Devon Heritage Services, in association with the Friends of Devon’s Archives and Wordquest, held an Open Day at the Devon Record Office, Great Moor House. We commemorated the Diamond Jubilee of the Devon Record Office, which was founded in March 1952, and celebrated the office’s past, whilst looking to its future as part of Devon Heritage Services. Here are some photos taken at the event, which featured stalls and displays from a number of heritage-based organizations, including the Devonshire Association, the Devon History Society, the Devon Gardens Trust, and local history societies from a number of Devon parishes. There were free talks on aspects of Devon history and an advice desk staffed by Devon Record Office employees. Devon Family History Society took over the refreshment room, and offered advice on family history research. |
![]() | There were guided tours of the strongrooms, where some of our most interesting documents were on display. Conservation Studio staff ran sessions where they gave advice on the preservation of visitors' own documents. Our thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the Open Day! |
