CHANGES AT DEVON RECORD OFFICE

The Devon Record Office is currently undergoing a period of modernisation and change.

We are working towards establishing a new Devon Heritage Service by combining a number of related services and developing joint methods of delivery.  A key part of this strategy is the formation of a Devon Heritage Centre to bring together the historical resources of the Devon Record Office with those of other heritage partners at the Record Office headquarters at Great Moor House, Sowton Business Park, Exeter, alongside the continued operation of the North Devon Record Office as part of the joint Local Studies Centre in Barnstaple Library.

Various aspects of our service, including opening times, are under review so please check our website or Facebook page regularly for details of planned changes.

PLEASE NOTE that from 1 April 2012 the Devon Record Office in Exeter will be closed on Mondays and the North Devon Record Office in Barnstaple will be closed on Wednesdays. These changes will allow us to focus on improving public access to our collections by concentrating on digitisation, increasing online availability of documents, reducing our cataloguing backlogs and working with communities to develop access to their archives.

THE OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED FOR STOCK-TAKING AND OTHER ESSENTIAL COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT TASKS FROM 6TH - 19TH FEBRUARY 2012 INCLUSIVE.
